Initially our Colourful urushi products received mixed reviews from customers and distributors,
we credited this to the teething issues experienced by any company entering an established
  market with an atypical product.
However people soon realised that this colorful Wajima nuri tableware was more versatile than
its contemporaries fit to match both Japanese and European styles. Trade shows in the Tokyo
area proved vital in establishing this fact which has gone on to become Nakakado shikki ten’s
  sigrature style.

Now solidly established and confident in our core focus we have started collaborating with designers from different fields.

Recently, we have teamed up with Kunihiko Morinaga, joint founder of ANREALAGE, an internationally famous fashion brand, and asked him to
design a series of jewelry in Wajima nuri. The results have attracted a surprising amount of attention from a younger audience.

We also have collaborated with Lara Bohinc, a successful female jewelry designer based in London, and produced a series of big jewelry boxes,
a vanity table and chairs in Wajima nuri. Items from this collection are shown at Gallery FUMI in London.

(Gallery FUMI)

What makes our products stand out

Hiroshi Nakakado, a traditional top coat craftsman in Wajima, inspired by his research into the
unique characteristics of urushi (Japanese lacquer) has developed Akebono (literally translated as
‘dawn’). A two tone colour gradation pattern: that utilises glossy black and red urushi.
Developing other colorful gradation patterns called Irodori as well.

The gradation colour pattern is achieved by mixing the two colors using a highly technical
method that results in a soft texture with subtle colors.
This modern take on classic Wajima nuri has allowed our studio to stand out among its peers.

Some of our products, such as cups, boast our signature gradation pattern on both the inside and the outside.
The glossy surface takes on the appearance of glass and is considered the mark of a skilled artisan.
This translucence is the defining characteristic of Hiroshi's speciality.

Knowing that people tend not to use Urushi tableware during hot weather he has developed tableware for summer.
